This valuable point means that we just need to defeat University B away on 30th April to be certain of promotion to Division 1 for next season – which would be a well-deserved reward for a superb campaign.

Downend made a flying start with impressive wins on boards 2 and 3 from Aldrin Malibiran and Humphrey Andolo.

When Bristol University mounted a strong fightback on the lower boards, the team showed great resilience. Captain Chaplin’s draw on board 1 and Aleksei Zverev’s draw on board 6 proved vital in holding the match together and securing the all-important point.
