Yet another Terry Marke Stonewall in the National Club. Black quickly blunders two Pawns and, suffering from shock, allows his King to get mated shortly afterwards.

Bd3 b6 4. f4 Ba6 {"Terry plays his favourite Stonewall opening which gives a Kingside attack but makes development of the Queens's Bishop difficult. Black correctly forces the exchange of White's good Bishop." RP. In view of the slightly odd place that this Black Bishop goes I'd reply 5 c4 abandoning the Stonewall formation. If a later ...d7-d5 White can just reply b2-b3. In the only game I could find on the database with 4...Ba6 White played 5 Qf3 c5 6 c4 Nbd7 7 b3 in Perez Rubio vs. Del Valle, Asturias 1998. White won an interesting game in 38 moves but not by typical Stonewall methods.} 5. Nf3 Bxd3 6. Qxd3 {6 cxd3 to plug the hole at e4 is an option but the text is simply a better move.} d5 7. O-O Nbd7 8. Nbd2 Bd6 9. Ne5 c5 10. c3 O-O 11. Rf3 Ne8 12. Rh3 f5 13. Ndf3 Be7 $4 {Both 13...Nxe5 14 dxe5 Be7 and 13...Nef6 are fine for Black.} 14. Nc6 Qc7 15. Nxe7+ Kf7 {"Black regains his piece but at the cost of two Pawns and a wrecked position." RP. If 15...Kh8 16 Ng6+ wins the Exchange as well.} 16. Nxd5 exd5 17. Qxf5+ Nef6 {"17...Ndf6 would have been better as the Queen would defend the 7th rank." RP. Deep Rybka agrees saying that the difference between the two is 2.76 compared to 3.46.} 18. Ne5+ Kg8 $4 {"After 18...Ke8 19.Qe6+ Kd8 20.Nf7+ Kc8 21.Nd6+ Kb8 does not get anywhere. White's extra Pawns should be enough to win, of course, but it will take a long time to bring more pieces into the attack. The move played allows a neat finish." RP.} 19.
